Renowned interior designer and HGTV’s The High Low Project star Sabrina Soto knows how to craft picture-perfect homes. And with her new book, Sabrina Soto Home Design, she’s aiming to help you deck out your dream pad. (No more Pinterest daydreaming!) The key? Staying organized. “I realized at an early age that when your home is organized, your life is organized,” Soto says.
The gorgeous go-getter took time out from her busy schedule to share her favoritesimplifying tips, need-to-have organization accessories and little inspirations that keep her moving through a ridiculously busy schedule. And, yes, this self-proclaimed juicing junkie somehow finds the time for a workout routine.
Where did you get your passion for organizing?
My grandmother! She is the biggest clean freak in the universe. When I visit with her, I never have to ask where anything is.
What’s your favorite organization accessory?
It depends on the space, but I can’t live without huggable hangers and closet organizers — the ones that hang over the doors are perfect for organizing accessories and hiding them when you need to.
What’s your favorite tip to give someone who’d like to do a home makeover on a tight budget?
Take your time to bargain hunt, and your efforts will pay off. Also, think out of the box — just because something looks like it won’t work in your space doesn’t mean it can’t be transformed.
Who gave you your best tip and what was it?
My mother always told me two things: Always be proud of your space, regardless of how much money you have to create it; and know when to tackle a DIY and when to call in a professional.
What’s your healthiest habit?
Juicing every morning: kale, celery, apples, ginger and carrots.
What’s your healthiest snack?
Cheese. I can’t live without it.
With so many shows going at once, how do you manage to squeeze in time to work out?
Exercise is very important, so on days where I’m not due on set until after 8 a.m., I’ll take a long walk in Central Park with my dog, drag myself to the gym or squeeze in a barre-based class.
What’s your favorite gym class to take?
Barre-based classes. I take one at a studio near me called Figure 4.
What tips can you give to de-clutter your life without ditching important memories and personal style?
Surround yourself with the things you love, but also keep it in check. Decide which items you want out on display and organize the rest with cute boxes from The Container Store or Target.
What’s up next for you?
I’m filming the third season of The High Low Project and promoting the book in between talk shows, appearances and book signings. I’m also thinking about new ways to get my ideas out to the fans, so stay tuned for some really exciting projects in the near future … and hopefully a tropical vacation in August!
